Theology for Kids: Where Did People Come From?

Where Did People Come From?

God created the first man, and his name was Adam (Gen. 2:20). God created him from the dust of the ground. It was not good that he was alone so God made a helper for him (Gen. 2:18), and she was made from Adam’s side (Gen. 2:21-23). This helper became his wife and her name was Eve (Gen. 3:20). It was God’s plan that a man would marry a woman (Gen. 2:24) and have children (Gen. 1:28). When God made them, both the man and woman were holy and happy.

God created the first man
The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him (Genesis 2:20)
God made a helper for the first man
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him” (Genesis 2:18)
God made the first woman from the man’s side
So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man” (Genesis 2:21-23)
The first woman became the Adam’s wife
The man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living (Genesis 3:20)
It is God’s plan that a man marries a woman
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24)
